From raffles to simulations to games, random numbers are everywhere. But not all randomness is equal — understanding the difference helps you pick the right tool for the job.
True vs pseudo-random
Pseudo-random generators use a formula seeded by an initial value; they are fast and good enough for most uses. True random sources draw on physical noise and are reserved for security-critical needs. Modern browsers expose a cryptographically strong generator for both.
Where it matters
Fair draws, statistical sampling, game mechanics and security tokens all rely on quality randomness. Picking numbers “from your head” is predictably biased.
Generate numbers in any range
Set a minimum and maximum and generate one or many unbiased random numbers instantly, using your browser's secure randomness.
