Text to Word Converter

Convert text to a Word file: paste your writing and download a ready .docx you can open in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice.

Word to Text Converter

Convert a Word document to plain text: open a .docx and copy its words out without Word installed.

Why do this in the browser?

A .docx file is really a ZIP archive of XML parts. That means both directions of this conversion can happen on your own machine: the Word file is assembled here, or unpacked here, and never travels to a server. For a contract, a CV or anything confidential, that difference matters more than the conversion itself.

What carries over, and what does not

Going from text to Word, each line becomes a paragraph and blank lines are preserved, so the structure of your writing survives. Styling does not — you get clean, unformatted paragraphs ready to style in Word. Coming the other way, you get the words and their line breaks, but not tables, images, headers or fonts. This is a text converter, not a layout converter, and being honest about that is more useful than pretending otherwise.

A note on .doc

Only the modern .docx format is supported. The older .doc format from Word 2003 and earlier is a completely different binary structure. If you have one, open it in Word or Google Docs and save it as .docx first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Word file created on my device?
Yes. The .docx is assembled in your browser and saved straight to your downloads folder. Nothing is sent anywhere, so it works offline once the page has loaded.
Will the file open in Microsoft Word?
Yes. It is a standard Open XML document and opens in Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice, Pages and anything else that reads .docx.
Does it keep my formatting?
Line and paragraph breaks are kept. Bold, italics, fonts and colours are not, because the source is plain text and has none. You get clean paragraphs to style yourself.
Can it read an old .doc file?
No — only .docx. The older .doc format is an entirely different binary structure. Re-save it as .docx in any word processor and it will work.
Is there a size limit?
No fixed limit. Because the work happens locally the only ceiling is your device memory, and ordinary documents of many thousands of words convert instantly.
